The Ritual journal · Before you book

Your first massage in Bali, made simple.

You do not need to know massage terminology to plan a good appointment. A clear choice of experience, a confirmed price and a short conversation about comfort give you a useful place to start. Here is how to prepare for a Ritual visit to your villa or hotel.

1. Choose the experience before the duration

Ritual's signature is 90 minutes of tantra-inspired attentive bodywork, from IDR 1.200.000. The Soft Touch Ritual is 60 minutes of lighter sensations, at IDR 600.000. They differ in approach as well as length.

Choose bodywork if you want to discuss pressure and focus areas. Choose Soft Touch if hair play, featherlight contact, gentle scratching or slow tracing appeal to you. If the names are unfamiliar, describe what you enjoy in ordinary words.

2. Check what the price includes

Transport: free in Seminyak; up to IDR 300,000 depending on location. Send your exact accommodation pin so that the quote matches the visit you are planning. Ask for one total that includes the session and transport.

Also confirm the appointment time and ask about cancellation or rescheduling terms before agreeing. Saving those details in the same WhatsApp conversation makes them easy to find if your plans change.

3. Arrange access and a comfortable space

For a hotel visit, check whether a visiting practitioner is permitted and how they should enter. Share useful directions for a villa, including the entrance or reception point if the map pin alone is not enough.

Describe the available room and furniture, then agree on the setup and who provides any equipment. Choose a time when the space will be available for the appointment. Small details such as room temperature, background sound and interruptions are worth discussing because preferences differ.

4. Say what you want before the session starts

A useful introduction is simple: the areas you want attention on, the pressure or sensations you prefer, and anything you want left alone. You can say that it is your first session and ask the therapist to explain what happens next.

Discuss clothing and draping at the same time. You choose the coverage you feel comfortable with; a broad treatment name does not decide this for you. An initial preference can change during the appointment.

5. Keep the conversation open

Short requests are enough: ‘lighter, please’, ‘skip that area’, ‘more coverage’ or ‘can we pause?’ You do not need to wait until the session ends to mention something you would like changed.

You also do not need to produce a particular feeling or response. If a sensation distracts you, ask to switch. If you want quiet, say so. Both your comfort and the therapist's boundaries continue to apply throughout the visit.
